Thevius Bust, part 7 – Skin & Eyes

Busts Twitch Stream

Today I worked on the skin and eyes of this great bust. I also had time to work a bit on his hair and horns. The video of the stream you can find on my YouTube Channel .

Paints

I used the following paints for his eyes:

  • Ancient Oak – MSP 09412
  • Dark Green – AK AK11146
  • Deep Green – AK AK11142
  • Greenish White – AK AK11005

For the skin I used these colors:

  • Purple Shadow – Vallejo Nocturna Fantasy Pro 74.011
  • Indian Shadow – Scalecolor SC23
  • Briliant Red – MSP 09468
  • Lotus Orange – MSP 09335
  • Trooper White – Two Thin Coats 10036

Eyes

I wanted the eyes to have no pupils and look a bit lit they are glowing. I started with painting the eyeballs white, to make sure the green would be bright. Next I painted boths eyes Dark Green to cover the white. In the middle I painted a dot of Deep Green. I made sure that the dots in both eyes where pointing towards the same point (as if they where pupils and make is eyes not cross-eyed). With The Greenish White I made a smaller dot on the Deep Green one. I made sure that this dot did touch at least the lower eyelid. That did already look good, but I added a little bit of Ancient Oak in all four eyecorners, to give them the a bit more contrast.

Face/skin

I painted 2 thin coats of Purple Shadow on all of the skin. Then painted about 90% of the face with several thing layers of Indian Shadow, avoiding all the deep recesses. I made the mistake to avoid ALL the recesses (even the small ones on his forehead). It gave him a look as if his forehead was cracked and made his skin color to dark. It took me a while (I was already layering with the Brilliant Red) before I noticed it and covered also the less deep recesses of his fave with the Indian Shadow. Leaving the Purple Shadoe mainly under his eyebrows an around the eyes, under his nose and other deep recesses.

I slowly started to paint smaller area’s with a 1:1 combination of Indian Shadow & Brilliant Red. Still layering with thinned paints. I used pure Brilliant Red for most of the higher parts of his face, concentrating on his forehead, brows, cheeckbones, bridge of his nose & nostrills and high parts of his ears and neck.

I mixed a little bit of Lotus Orange into the Brilliant Red to give the final highlights. I mainly used this thined paint on the highest points of his face that where on his left side (to indicate that the lightsource was shining on his left side).
